Protocol converter · MS0-MB

Put Modbus equipment on your BACnet network.

The MS0-MB converts Modbus RTU and Modbus TCP to BACnet/IP, so generator controllers, UPS systems and industrial equipment show up on a building automation network as native BACnet objects. Registers can be read and written from the BACnet side.

What it does

Every Modbus register becomes a BACnet object.

A protocol converter maps each point from one protocol's model into another's. The MS0-MB reads Modbus registers from your equipment and presents them to the BMS as BACnet objects, and writes from the BMS go back to the Modbus device.

Modbus RTU and TCP

Connects to Modbus devices over RS-485 or over Ethernet with Modbus TCP.

Native BACnet/IP

The BMS sees ordinary BACnet objects, with no Modbus knowledge needed on the BAS side.

Read and write

Bidirectional mapping lets the BMS command Modbus equipment, not just monitor it.

Browser setup

Configured from a web browser. There is no vendor software to install.

Ready-made maps

Pre-configured variants for H100, PowerZone, UPS and RSP-UPS applications.

Where it's used

Generator and UPS data on the BMS.

Best for putting generator and UPS data on a BACnet BMS, including retrofits where the BMS must command Modbus devices.

The same converter is built into Pythia panels: the Remote Status Panels ship with the gateway that matches what they report to. Pre-configured MS0-MB variants are mapped for H100, PowerZone, UPS and RSP-UPS applications. Tell us the equipment and we'll ship it mapped.

Need more than one connection?

One gateway per link, or one Pythia DM for the site.

A gateway is the right tool for one fixed connection between two systems. When a site has many devices in many protocols, the Pythia DM polls them all directly over BACnet/IP, Modbus/TCP, Modbus RTU, SNMP and more, adds alarms, trends and dashboards, and publishes everything to your BMS and NMS.

Questions

MS0-MB questions, answered.

What does the MS0-MB do?

It converts Modbus RTU and Modbus TCP to BACnet/IP, so Modbus equipment such as generator controllers and UPS systems appears on a BACnet building automation system as native BACnet objects.

Can the BMS write to the Modbus device?

Yes. Mapping is bidirectional, so registers can be read and written from the BACnet side. That makes the MS0-MB suitable for retrofits where the BMS must command Modbus equipment.

Do I need special software to set it up?

No. The MS0-MB is configured from a web browser.

Can you ship it already mapped for my equipment?

Yes. Pre-configured variants are mapped for H100, PowerZone, UPS and RSP-UPS applications. For other equipment, call with the device and its Modbus register list.

Which gateway do I need for SNMP instead of BACnet?

For Modbus to SNMP, use the MS0-MS. For BACnet to SNMP, use the MS0-BS.

How much does the MS0-MB cost?
